  1. Hey, I’m a recent listener to your podcast, enjoying the discussions so far, and just got to the point where you’re discussing having problems understanding the brony fad and I wanted to share an opinion I had on the subject. I’d loosely consider myself a brony since I like a few fan-art blogs but I’ve never seen a complete episode or season. I spent some time considering why it appealed to me and others since it does seem odd and came to the conclusion that I believe many people use it as an antidepressant. You start looking at the people who like it and many of them have issues with depression (my case), bad home life, abuse, bad love life, and a number of other issues. The reason the fad has grown is there forms a sense of community with the people who like it. It helps that the writing and art is well done and so it appeals to a wider audience similar to pixar films but the key difference between mlp and most other forms of escapism in anime or video games is there are no humans so its a bit more removed from reality than most other cartoons. People may not want to admit it but I believe it’s mostly escapism since it’s about as far as you can get from real life. That’s my 2 cents. Keep up the great work.

    Scott,

Thanks for reaching out to us. I, for one, can say I had not thought of MLP from your viewpoint and the more I think about it. The more and more it make sense to me. I will make sure the guys address your viewpoint on the next podcast, switch I believe will be on February 1st. We will be live from a local comic book shop all day for that show, so we should have no problem talking about this.

    Thanks for tuning in.
